A Blast From The Past

I was driving back to Limerick last night after visiting my parents for the weekend. The radio was blaring and I was singing along with whatever songs were on 2fm.

And I heard Kerbdog! I hadn't heard Kerbdog in years. Their songs were some of the first that I ever learned to play on the guitar, back in the day.

Well the guitar is long gone, as is the grungy muso boy who inspired me to pick it up but my love of 90's Irish rock will live forever.

Cormac Battle, I heart you.

Our Newest Addition

We have now had Scruffy for 5 weeks and no one has come looking for or claimed him, so we get to keep him as part of our family.

Isn't he the cutest dog in the world?

He does loads of really cute, photo worthy things, but he usually moves too fast for me to capture them... like holding his leash in his teeth when he wants a walk, going absolutely crazy every evening at about 7.30 and racing around and around the back garden, stealing slippers and trying to bury them.

My mum and dad really, really love him. I haven't seen them this besotted in ages.

Scruffy, welcome to the family.

May he rest in peace.

Hanna Viktorsson

source

I was over at Typography Served and I spotted the work above, from Hanna Viktorsson as part of her 'An Incomplete Manifesto for Growth' series.

I love the 'Begin Anywhere' print. It would make a great motivational tool.

Where would you hang these prints if you had them?

Movies For All

Am I the biggest kid ever for being all excited about the new Harry Potter film? It's out on 15th of July, just to let you know.

And am I worse for kinda looking forward to the next installment of The Twilight Saga, Full Moon? I'm only kinda looking forward to it as I didn't really enjoy the first movie at all. The books were so much more detailed, but I have hope that the next one will be better.

I'm really looking forward to seeing lots and lots of movies over the summer, especially Ice Age 3 and Up, I've heard such great things about Up already - just can't wait until it's in the cinema here.

Annual Pig on a Spit Party

Yesterday was spent over at a friends house for his - hopefully annual - pig roast!

So far they have done it 3 times, lots of food, lots of music, kegs of Guinness and a pig on a spit, but yesterday was the first time I was able to attend. A pig on a spit is one hell of a centerpiece and a conversation starter let me tell you that.

The whole set-up was fantastic, a tandoori bbq and salad plate early in the evening, roast pork and baked potatoes at about 11 o clock. The pig takes about 9 hours to cook. Fridge full of desserts. One of the guys even brought home-made mint chocolate mousse, it was amazing. About 60 people were there, they had put up a marquee in case the weather got bad but the day, and night, held perfectly.

Things I Love Thursday

Father's Day - It's on Sunday and I'm not going to be home this weekend so I sent a pretty card to my dad. What he doesn't know is that I am going to surprise him by arriving home on Sunday afternoon, maybe with some cake.

Melon For Breakfast - This morning I started with some Galia melon and it was so sweet and tasty. I love, love, love melon in the morning - honeydew, cantaloupe, watermelon, I'm not to fussy.

Lunch With Friends - I'm hoping to head to Spur for lunch with Sonya and her man today. Bottomless soft drink, Hawaiian burger and crispy onion rings please. The diet starts tomorrow!

Grey's Anatomy - Last episode of season 5 is on next Monday night and I can't wait. I know that I can watch it online now, I even have it downloaded, but I love the suspense and the ritual of Monday night - 9.30 - tea in hand - no disturbance - Grey's Anatomy.

What things give you joy this week?

Blog of the Week

source

I know that it has been ages since I posted a Blog of the Week but I just had to share Slices of Beauty... with you all. She has so many gorgeous photos and images throughout her blog.

It was through this blog post that I found out about The Happiest Book In The World.

In 2006 Alex Ostrowski found out that researchers at The University of Leicester concluded that Denmark is the happiest country in the world. In March 2008 he made the decision to visit happiness, and embarked upon a pilgrimage to find it. His are presented in this book, but only one copy exists.

This Little Piggy...

Today was a really great day so far.

This Little Piggy... had a workshop.
The workshop this morning went smoothly and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. I hope tomorrows group goes just as well, I might need to shorten the project a little - we didn't finish the whole task this afternoon.

This Little Piggy... had some lunch.
I popped home for lunch with the girls and managed to avoid all the showers falling today. Vegetable noodles and apple juice, I almost feel healthy and I saved some money by doing it.

This Little Piggy... is having takeaway.
A bunch of us are meeting up later on for some Chinese takeaway and gossip - JC and Fredrick, you have been warned. The Monday night tradition lives on.

and This Little Piggy... wants to paint her little piggies.
I was thinking here to myself in the office that I might just treat my little toes to a pedicure tonight. I can't decide between metallic purple or black polish.

I hope your day has been going well.

Summer Camp

source

Yea! I've been asked to be part of the Introduction to University Programme here in UL for the next few weeks. I get to run the Engineering 2 Design Engineering Workshop, which is a basic introduction to 3D computer modelling using Solidworks.

I'm so excited to be doing something with kids this summer and if it goes well there is a chance that I could be asked to do the Explore Science & Engineering Camp.

I'm a little apprehensive though... I know how to hold the attention of a bunch of college students but 15 year olds are a whole different ball game. What if I'm boring and lame and crap? Does anyone have any hints for me for working with teenagers? Any hints at all?

Things I Love Thursday

Internet Access - We finally have broadband in the new house. 10Mb line with no download limits. Yea! Working from home might now be a possibility.

Blankets - Now that the weather has turned cool again I love wrapping up in a pile of blankets on the couch and snuggling down for the night.

Antihistamines - I have a yucky bout of hives at the moment and the only relief I get is from antihistamines.

Miss Mash

source

I know that my blog has been very disjointed recently.

Posts don't really flow from one to the next, the images don't follow a theme, one of my friends mentioned that he gets 'grrr' when he reads it sometimes and for this I'm truly sorry.

My poor muddled head is a little all over the place but I hope to be back on form soon. My mish-mash postings are a result of wanting to post something that has entertained me or got me thinking during the day and I'm not always entertained by the same type of things on a daily basis.

The Fearless and The Fancy

I was over at angeltreats a few weeks ago and spotted this post and I just had to go make me into a SuperHero. I made Mr T into one too.

I think I'd need to get a lot slimmer and Mr T would need to get a lot more buff to fit into these costumes but I'm really rocking that cape.

Check out The Hero Factory to make your own.

Cross Your Fingers

source

Please, please cross your fingers for us.

The weather has just turned cold, cloudy and windy, and we really need good weather for this barbeque or else we have to move it into the garage.

Update - The evening held and all was great. Yea!

Weekend Plans

source

Hi everyone,
I hope you all have a great weekend. I will be heading away to Galway this evening to Mr T.

Friday night will hopefully spent soaking up all the atmosphere of the Departure Weekend of the Volvo Ocean Race. I've heard that The Stunning will be on the main stage.

Saturday morning will find us back in the city to see off the competitors as they leave the City of the Tribes, followed by J&S's engagement party.

Sunday will be a wonderful lazy day of tea and dozy chats, maybe a visit to the beach before heading back to Limerick for yet another week of work.

What are you doing this weekend? Anything fun?

Mr T, This One Is For You

These pictures are for Mr T, to say how much I love him and how much I appreciate all that he has done for me.

Things I Love Thursday

source

I can't believe I nearly forgot this post today.

Toast - Anyone who knows me knows that I LOVE toast. I mean so much so that I consider bread 'raw toast'. With butter, with jam, with honey, with anything.

Empty boxes - Because empty boxes means that most of our stuff is unpacked in the new house. I hate moving - I'm on house number 8 in 12 months, crazy I know.

Sunshine - As an Irish girl I have come to the realisation that I will never have a tan but wonderful Mother Nature decided to prove me wrong and has blessed us with sun filled 25-29 degree weather all this week. I love that a sunny day is a perfect excuse for ice-cream.

Are you loving stuff today?

A Wonderful Gift

source

I got a present in the post!

The wonderful and talented Melissa Esplin of IS.LY sent me a gorgeous hand stitched notebook and a great magnetic bookmark from her Earth Day Giveaway.

Thank you so much, your gift brightened up a very sad week for me.

I'm afraid to write in the notebook though as it is so pretty, and I can't think of anything that I could write in it that would do it justice. Do you ever feel like that about pretty stationary? Melissa hoped that it would help me in my mission to keep everything organised.

I have pictures of the packaging and, Melissa, you have the most gorgeous hand writing!
